Providence Health Insurance Update

Starting September 1, 2025, Providence Health Plan will shift management of its Alternative Care Benefits—including visits with Naturopathic Doctors—to American Specialty Health (ASH).

This change means many visits—even routine checkups, acute care, or bodywork—will require prior authorization. ASH’s process is widely known to be slow, disorganized, and burdensome, adding significant administrative strain to providers.

At the same time, Providence is slashing reimbursement rates by up to 73%—a level that makes it impossible for small clinics like ours to continue providing care under this model.

Given these changes, we will be going out of network with Providence as of January 1, 2026.

If you have Providence coverage and are concerned about these changes, we encourage you to speak up:

  • Contact your plan or HR representative directly.

  • File a complaint with Providence at: phpappealsandgrievances@providence.org

  • Sign or share the Change.org petition opposing this transition.

We remain committed to your care. If you'd like to continue working with us:

  • As Open Enrollment seasons comes around, please choose Moda or Pacific Source plans, where we will remain in-network providers

  • For out of network care:

    • You can use HSA/FSA funds to cover the costs of visits

    • We can provide a superbill you can submit to Providence or through Reimbursify.com for possible reimbursement.

We want to keep taking care of you, our patients, so please reach out and let us know if there are other ways we can help.

We’re grateful for your continued support and understanding as we navigate this transition.
